Essential Oils to prevent and relieve colds and flu
Thieves™ is a blend of antiviral and antimicrobial essential oils that can be diffused, applied onto an affected area (especially good on the feet for your children) and ingested to provide relief. It can help soothe the symptoms of colds and flu, and prevent spreading the virus.
R.C.™, short for Respiratory Congestion,includes three eucalyptus leaf oils and supports the respiratory system. Diffusing, directly inhaling and/or applying R.C. to the affected area can soothe respiratory problems such as congestion, sore throat, sinusitis, bronchitis, cough and allergy symptoms.
Raven™ is another Young Living essential oil blend designed to support the immune system and relieve respiratory symptoms. It may be used in alteration with R.C.™.
Breathe Again™roll on promotes respiratory health. Amongst other potent ingredients such as manuka, rose hip, myrtle and peppermint, it includes 4 types of eucalyptus oil. Eucalyptus oil contains high amounts of cineole, which has been studied for its potential to support healthy lung function. It comes in a roll-on bottle to easily apply onto the throat, neck or chest for relief of respiratory problems brought on by colds or flu.
If you are new to Young Living essential oils you may currently only have a few oils to choose from. Other oils to consider for colds and flu are: peppermint, which is anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory, and Deep Relief roll on. I have used both of these with great success for congestion and coughing. Put a drop of peppermint oil in your hand, rub your hands around 3 times, and then take a number of slow, deep inhalations. It really opens your airways.
Rest, plenty of fluids and getting essential nutrients is also important in the treatment of colds and flu, and whether or not you plan to ‘soldier on’, essential oils can support your recovery and make you feel better as you heal. * Please remember that if you have sensitive skin or you are applying oils to children, the safest place to apply the oils is to the soles of the feet. (There are Vita Flex points for the whole body on the soles of your feet, so the oils will still work on the affected area.) You can also add the essential oils to a small amount of carrier oil – like organic almond, olive or coconut oil – in the palm of your hand and then rub your hands together before applying them. Less is often more when you are using therapeutic grade essential oils. For babies and small children consider diffusing or applying 1 drop of essential oil to their clothing or bed linen.
